Project description:
An old and well-used timber mill warehouse has been transforming into a generous, spatially interesting, and sophisticated home. 102 The Mill preserves and celebrates the industrial and varied character of Balmain, by showcasing the original, recycled and new timber used throughout the house to pay both homages to the buildings initial use and to set an example for the adaptive reuse of an existing building into a warm, character-filled home.
The floor is in two parts; a new tongue and grooved Grey Ironbark floor installed on the lower level while the existing timber floor has been retained on the upper levels of the house. The Grey Ironbark flooring adds to the warm character of the home. Part of the original flooring was damaged in a fire in the 1980’s, and the fire-damaged timber flooring was reused as feature fencing in the first level courtyard.
