Congratulations to Waterfront Tavern by H&E Architects

The Annual Australian Timber Design Award winners for 2022 were announced last night at the Crown Hotel in Sydney. H&E Architects received first prize for their outstanding project - Waterfront Tavern.

The Waterfront Tavern is the centrepiece in an artificial harbour within the expansive and master-planned Shell Cover development south of Wollongong. It acts as both a refuge for residents and a destination for visitors. Lavish and broad in their use of timber, the project team demonstrates exceptional craftsmanship and detailing through its undulating forms, exposed interior and exterior surfaces and features.

What the Awards are About

The Australian Timber Design Awards competition is open to build environment professionals and students who want to showcase their built design and/or building projects in residential and/or public or commercial buildings that feature timber structures or finishes.

The aim of the Awards is to develop a timber design ethos through the encouragement and showcasing of superlative timber design in a variety of applications.

Timber is one product among many that designers can choose from. It is a beautiful, strong and environmentally friendly material. The Awards champion the consideration of the nature of wood and the heritage of timber construction, including the importance of forestry and conservation.

Australian Timber Design Awards and Competition aims to act as a platform; to bring together architects, designers, builders, engineers, students, businesses and the press to encourage truly sustainable timber design.
